A WOMAN from Lerwick who found £40 in her workplace and took it for herself has been fined £200.
Soria Mankour, of Burgh Road, was discovered with the money in her bra after her employers launched inquiries into the missing cash.
The 40 year old pled guilty at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday to taking the money from the town's St Olaf Dental Practice on 1 December 2015 without attempting to discover its true owner.
Procurator fiscal Duncan Mackenzie said the practice had contacted the police after some money started disappearing.
Mankour denied any involvement when first spoken to by staff about £40 that had gone missing, but UV lighting later revealed that she had the marked notes "secreted within her bra".
Defence agent Tommy Allan said it was her client's position that she found the money on the floor, but she doesn't know why she took it.
He added that there was "a lot going on for her" at the time, with family illness and her own health causing stress.
Despite there only being a "modest" amount of cash taken, Sheriff Philip Mann said the theft of money is a "serious matter".
