SHETLAND could have a long-awaited soft play centre for children if a new venture achieves planning consent.
Local couple Shereen and Joel Friedlander want to launch the Tuns o Fun centre at Lerwick’s Gremista Brae and plans have been submitted to Shetland Islands Council.
The centre would feature an adventurous play area for kids, as well as a cafe for parents, and it is hoped that it could be up and running in time for the Easter holidays.
While its age range has not yet been decided, the centre could be suitable for children up to the age of eight.
Since launching earlier this week, the Tuns o Fun Facebook page has received around 850 “likes” as eager parents keep tabs on the project.
The Friedlanders, who are already leasing the Gremista unit, believe Shetland has been “crying out” for a soft play centre for years.
Plans to create a dedicated facility in a proposed community centre in the old Quarff Primary School fell through in 2015 at the last hurdle due to lack of funding.
