The exhibition comprises some 80 images showing some iconic views of the isles, as well as landscapes and townscapes, animals and flowers and islanders' favourite activities and hobbies.

Club spokesman Stuart Hubbard said club members just loved to photograph Shetland.

"The extended periods of dawn and dusk produce remarkable vistas, although most of our members prefer the dusk photography to the dawn.

"In our collection we have chosen as wide a variety of locations as we can, so we hope that everybody who stays here, either resident or as a tourist, will recognise somewhere that they have seen and love," he said.

The photographic club has been running continuously since the 1940s and regularly meets on the first Wednesday of the month at the Islesburgh Community Centre.

It will open its doors again after the summer break on Wednesday 7 October.

The exhibition in the exhibition space at the Shetland Museum and Archive runs until 20 September.
