Lerwick man bailed over cannabis haul

A FORMER diver charged with being concerned in the supply of cannabis with an estimated street value of £18,000 was released on bail after he appeared in private at Lerwick Sheriff Court on Thursday.

Innes Fraser Irvine, of Lerwick, was arrested after a tip off while he was inside a car outside the Bells Brae primary school, on Lerwick’s Gilbertson Road, around 5pm on Wednesday.

The 45 year old was charged with being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs, obstructing police officers and threatening or abusive behaviour.

He made no plea or declaration and was committed for further examination before being released on bail.

Following his arrest, Shetland area commander Angus MacInnes said: “We will continue to target those involved in the illegal drugs trade here in Shetland.

“We would again like to thank the public for providing us with information. The more information we receive the more pro-active we can be in the fight against drugs, which are a scourge on society.”
