Police name motorcyclist killed in accident

| Written by Shetland News

TRIBUTES have been paid to Robert Gidney, from Sandness, who died in hospital following a tragic road traffic accident on the B9071 near Aith, earlier this week.

Police said the 60-year old died in hospital on Tuesday morning following a collision between his red Honda CBF 125 motorcycle and a black Mitsubishi Trojan pick-up truck, on Monday evening.

Neighbour of the deceased, councillor Cecil Smith, said the small west side community was in deep shock.

"Our thoughts go out to the family at this difficult time. The community is deeply affected by this sad news," he said.

Ian, as he was known locally, had made a name for himself as 'the journeyman' producing high quality leather belts and saddler.

He was the chairman of the Shetland Arts & Crafts Association.
