Jak Watt will trek all the way from Cunningsburgh to Lerwick in aid of Cancer Research, Macmillan and CLAN charities. Weather-permitting the walk will take place on Sunday 11 September.
His very proud mother Nicole Watt said Jak vowed to take on the challenge because he wants new medical solutions to be found.
His great granddad, Charlie Lafferty, has incurable oesophageal cancer.
“These are three very close charities to us as Jak’s great granddad has cancer and he desperately wishes that someone out there will find a medicine that will work for everyone, because sadly the medicine is no longer working for great granddad,” Nicole said.
She said Macmillan nurses did a “wonderful job keeping us going and listening to us when we need to let off some steam or need a shoulder to cry on”, while staff from CLAN visit Jak at school to make sure he is okay and play games with him.
“He has set a target of £400,” Nicola said, “but I would love to see him smash that target and would be so thankful if everyone could spare a pound or two.”
She added: “Words can’t describe how proud I am of Jak. He is a really kind-hearted boy who never fails to amaze me, and I have no doubt in my mind that he will reach his target and do a fantastic job on the day.”
